From the release of The Force Awakens to the release of The Last Jedi, fans of the franchise came up with a record number of different theories dedicated to new characters.
And this is logical. With the prequel trilogy, everything was clear: it was known in advance that Anakin would turn into Vader, the babies Luke and Leia would be hidden, and Master Yoda and Obi-Wan would go into exile - one could only guess about the details and minor characters.
We examine the most interesting and craziest assumptions of fans of the franchise and tell how The Last Jedi destroyed them.
Ray, I'm your father
The first thing that aroused the greatest interest among fans was the mystery of Rey's origin. A girl from the desert planet Jakku, who knows nothing about her parents, suddenly shows amazing abilities with the Force and can even resist the influence of Kylo Ren. And in the final battle, the girl completely defeats him, although she has never learned the skill of wielding a lightsaber.
Many theories immediately emerged about Rey's origins. They said that she was Luke's daughter, which is why she has such abilities in the Force and high skill with a sword. Or she is Han Solo's daughter, since she drives and repairs the Millennium Falcon just as well.
The story of Darth Plagueis, mentioned in the prequels, could also be interestingly revealed. According to legend, he learned to control power so well that he overcame death itself and could revive his loved ones. It is likely that Plagueis himself did not die either, but was hiding somewhere all these years, and, waiting for the right moment, took the place of the supreme leader.
In fact
Either version could someday turn out to be true, since Snoke's origins are not revealed in the story. But given the character's fate, the likelihood that anything will be revealed about him is quite low.
So for now, the closest thing to the truth is the fan theory that Snoke is an abbreviation for Sith No One Knew Existed (“Sith that no one knew about”). Snoke is similar to the emperor from the first episodes of the classic trilogy, so we may have to wait many years to find out his story.
Hatch to the dark side
This theory was born primarily because of the posters. It so happens that on most official Star Wars posters, the main villain is located in the background, as if behind the other heroes. As can be seen in the promotional materials for the eighth episode, it is Luke who occupies this place, and not Kylo or Snoke. In addition, in the trailer he says that the teachings of the Jedi must be ended, and in general he walks around with an ominous look all the time.
Various options were offered. From the completely radical: Luke deliberately persuaded Kylo Ren to the dark side and escaped. To more logical and restrained ones: Luke, over the years as a hermit, has been slightly damaged in his mind and has difficulty distinguishing between good and evil. And perhaps, by starting Rey's training, he will pull her to the dark side.
In contrast to this, there was an assumption that Luke is not evil after all, but he has been dead for many years and exists only as a Force ghost - it’s not for nothing that he dreamed of his own death back in the classics.
In fact
Luke is not a villain at all. He became disillusioned with himself and with the very teachings of the Jedi and left the world, going into hermithood like Yoda. He does not lean toward the dark side of the force and protects Rey from it. And they placed it like that on the posters simply because it’s beautiful.
Kylo Ren is on the light side
Kylo Ren didn't look like a canonical villain back in The Force Awakens. In addition, he was trained by Luke Skywalker himself. This gave rise to the theory about the “sent Cossack”. According to assumptions, Kylo is devoted to the light side of the force and sincerely wants to defeat evil. That is why he communicates with Vader’s mask - Anakin dreamed of the same thing before turning to the dark side. Perhaps the phrase: “I will finish what you started” is about this, and not about seizing power.
According to this theory, Kylo Ren is secretly mentored by Luke. And to implement the plan to save the galaxy, he must gain the trust of Snoke, since it is impossible to get close to him “head-on”.
Kylo Ren pretends to betray his teacher and go over to Snoke's side, supporting this legend with all his might. But the Supreme Leader forces him to do terrible things, and now Kylo is on the verge of a breakdown. In this context, one can perceive his dialogue with Han Solo completely differently.

Kylo Ren
Snoke ordered Kylo Ren to kill his own father. Of course he doesn't want to do this, but there's too much at stake. Kylo is ready to abandon the mission, but Han seems to give him permission, sacrificing himself for the common good. Although, if you think about it, this theory is clearly based on the image of Severus Snape from Harry Potter.
In fact
Kylo Ren is truly on the dark side. Once Luke saw in him too much influence from Snoke, and, frightened, wanted to kill his student. This is what completely turned Ren to the dark side. And even conversations with Rey, which were shown in the trailers, stirring up the interest of fans, are actually Snoke’s obsession, which influenced Ren’s mind.
In The Force Awakens, Rey has visions of several masked Sith, and Snoke calls Kylo "Chapter Master of Ren". But nothing more is known about them. It seems that in this case, the fans' assumptions are close to the truth. It's likely that some of them are actually former students of Luke Skywalker. He mentions that several young Jedi have joined Kylo Ren.
Han Solo survived
In the seventh episode, Kylo Ren, on Snoke's orders, kills his father. But not wanting to believe in the death of their favorite character, fans came up with several theories at once. Firstly, the death could have been faked. Either by simply piercing Han's clothes between his arm and side, or by using Kylo's ability to control plasma flows - after all, he stopped the shot of a ray pistol at the very beginning of The Force Awakens. And this correlates perfectly with the version of the “good” Kylo.
Secondly, they also remembered Darth Maul from The Phantom Menace. Obi-Wan Kenobi cut him in half, and hardly anyone could have imagined that such a wound was not fatal. However, in the Clone Wars series, Darth Maul appears with an artificial lower body. Interest was also fueled by the mention on various film sites of Harrison Ford in the lists of actors in the eighth episode.

Unfortunately, Khan is completely and irrevocably dead. It is unlikely that he will be able to even be a ghost, because Han Solo did not know how to handle the Force. So we can only count on his appearance in future films in the form of flashbacks.
Finn - the last Jedi
Despite the fact that Rey in The Force Awakens is a clear analogue of Luke from A New Hope, fans have found a lot of evidence that Finn should play the role of the last Jedi. He is drawn to goodness, and this even makes him betray the First Order, although the soldiers are probably brainwashed from childhood. He is Force-sensitive: Finn senses Starkiller blowing up the planet, just as Obi-Wan once sensed the destruction of Alderaan.
In addition, Finn is simply too lucky for an ordinary person, probably the Force helps him. In addition, Maz Kanata herself gives him the sword, and Rey repeatedly refuses to be a Jedi, and may be inclined to turn to the dark side.
The theory of Finn the Jedi is also confirmed by the fact that he, like Rey, enters into battle with Kylo Ren without any preparation at all. And many fans assumed that making Rey a Jedi was too banal and predictable and needed an interesting plot twist.

Chala, Finn and Poe find Vikram's assistant, who witnessed the contact between Vikram and the First Order. Leia and the Resistance fighters arrest Vikram and imprison him for treason.
